TOKYO, March 29 -- Tokyo stocks ended the morning marginally lower Wednesday as exporter issues advanced on a weak yen, selling by investors who have locked in gains before the end of the fiscal year weighed on the market.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged 5.52 points, or 0.03 percent lower, from Tuesday to 19,197.35.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 2.87 points, or 0.19 percent, to 1,541.96.
Notable issues that advanced by the morning break comprised oil and coal product, and mining issues.
Those that lost ground were led by air transportation and construction-linked issues.
