MACAO, March 11 -- World's leading hospitality companies MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) announced plans to open its new integrated resort here in Cotai area in the second half of 2017.

MGM also unveiled its emblem, an 11-meter high lion statue gilded in 24-karat gold at the site of the new resort at a ceremony this week.

As the latest addition to the MGM portfolio in China, MGM Cotai got its official name in Chinese "Mei Si Mei Gou Mui", meaning "beautiful lion, beautiful MGM," the company said in the press release.

"This gold-gilded lion statue reveals our passion and dedication for MGM Cotai and its significance." Pansy Ho, Co-chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited said.

He added that the complex opening soon is being developed to drive greater product diversification and bring more advanced and innovative forms of entertainment to Macao as it grows as a global tourist destination.

Expected to start business during the second half of 2017, MGM Cotai will offer approximately 1,400 rooms with diverse offerings ranging from dynamic theater, meeting space, the spectacles, as well as culinary, retail, and family-friendly offerings for visitors and locals.

MGM's first resort here opened in 2007, located on the Macao Peninsula, featuring its art space.
