Taiwan export orders drop notably month on month
TAIPEI, March 21 -- Taiwan companies saw export orders down 18.8 percent month on month to 28.68 billion U.S. dollars in February, according to the island's economic affairs department.
Year on year, the February figure fell 0.8 percent, the department said in a press release earlier this week.
The department attributed the shrinking export orders to the worsening COVID-19 pandemic that reduced production, blocked supply chains and slowed logistics.
The statistics consist of export orders produced both in and outside Taiwan.
The largest amount of orders was from the United States, followed by the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong as well as Europe. The export orders from the three economies all dropped month on month in February while Europe reported the biggest reduction of 32.9 percent.
