Spokesman hits back at Taiwan DPP for collaboration with US

A mainland spokesman on Thursday slammed the Democratic Progressive Party, the ruling party of Taiwan, for its declaration of strengthening cooperation with the United States.

Tsai Ing-wen, the leader of the DPP, addressed a US think tank in a video conference hosted by the Hudson Institute and the Center for American Progress on Wednesday.

Tsai declared the island would strengthen ties with the US, including security cooperation and trade.

Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said Taiwan is a part of China. The mainland is firmly opposed to any development of official relations between Taiwan and countries which have diplomatic ties with China.

For a long time, DPP authorities have used some NGO platforms under the guise of so-called "democracy" and "freedom" to maliciously attack the mainland, undermine cross-Straits relations and create hostility and hatred among compatriots on both sides, he said.

"Such acts of the DPP as pawns for Western anti-China forces that harm the interests of compatriots on both sides are despicable, and it's impossible for them to win popularity by deceiving the public," he added.
