Taiwan records new COVID-19 cases for fifth day

TAIPEI, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan has reported new COVID-19 cases for a fifth consecutive day, with its total infections rising to 558, the island's epidemic monitoring agency said on Sunday.

Three people tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, two of whom traveled from Indonesia and one from the United States, the agency said in a press release.

One of the Indonesian nationals arrived in Taiwan on Oct. 29 for study and took the test at the airport since she has lost her sense of smell, while the other one arrived in Taiwan on Oct. 14 for work and took the test at the end of his 14-day quarantine, the statement said.

The last case was a Taiwan resident who returned from the United States on Oct. 30 and notified airport staff that he has had a fever and cough. He was sent to a designated quarantine center.

Among the confirmed cases in Taiwan, seven died, 518 recovered, and 33 others remain hospitalized, according to the agency. Enditem
