Mainland urges DPP authorities to support early completion of Xiamen-Kinmen bridge
BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities should face up to the interests and demands of Kinmen residents, stop political calculation, and support the early completion and operation of the Xiamen-Kinmen bridge, a mainland spokesperson said on Wednesday.
This bridge is currently under construction, with its Xiamen section project having begun in October 2023.
Peng Qing'en, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, told a press conference that after the bridge opens to traffic, it will bring convenience for people to travel between these two places and enable the supply of water, electricity and gas to Kinmen, thus adding impetus to Kinmen's economic development and improvement of the well-being of local residents.
Constructing this bridge is a common call and urgent desire shared by residents of both Xiamen and Kinmen, Peng said, while adding that more than 40 Kinmen compatriots visited the Xiamen section project on Nov. 15, and expressed their expectation for an early completion of the bridge.
