BANGKOK, Nov. 11 -- Bangkokians are strongly suggested to refrain from making loud noise or engaging in fanfare activity during Loy Krathong (basket-floating) festival on the upcoming Monday.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Governor Assawin Kwanmuang advised on Friday that revelers of the annual Loy Krathong festival in the Thai capital refrain from organizing concerts, making loud noise or playing with firecrackers during the current mourning period for late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Nobody will be allowed to engage in the night-time festival in the neighborhood of the Grand Palace where the people are paying homage to the late monarch, according to the Bangkok governor.
He took a boat ride along Chao Phraya River on Friday to inspect piers and see to it that they will be very safe on the festive night.
Loy Krathong festival is usually known as a fun-filled, fanfare tradition in which revelers throughout Thailand come out at night to float baskets, made of greenish banana leaves and adorned with fresh flowers and lit candles in canals or rivers.
The festival may as well be held in ponds inside public parks and in swimming pools at hotels, besides the canals and rivers, while many foreign tourists usually join in the annual festival.
