Taiwan reports more than 1,000 new local COVID-19 cases

TAIPEI, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan on Friday reported 1,284 new COVID-19 cases, including a record 1,209 locally transmitted infections and 75 imported cases. No new deaths from the disease were reported, said the island's disease monitoring agency.

Of the new local infections, New Taipei had the highest number with 328, followed by Taoyuan with 290, the agency added.

As of Thursday, Taiwan had reported a total of 6,543 local infections this year, the agency noted.

Currently, about 79 percent of Taiwan's population have received two doses of vaccine against COVID-19, while about 54 percent have gotten a booster shot.

To date, Taiwan has reported 31,857 confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 22,355 were local infections.
