TAIPEI, April 20 (Xinhua) -- The latest COVID-19 resurgence in Taiwan is still spreading, with another 2,386 new local cases reported on Tuesday, about 40 percent more than the previous day, the island's disease monitoring agency said Wednesday.

It took five days for the tally to rise from 1,209 to more than 2,000. The agency said the tally would possibly surpass 10,000 by the end of April.

Of the new local cases, New Taipei had the highest number at 822, followed by Taipei with 471. Taipei's mayor said Wednesday that the travel records of the confirmed cases would no longer be published.

Tuesday also saw 95 new imported infections reported in the region, said the agency.

To date, Taiwan has reported 40,186 confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 30,147 were local infections.
