Aug 14(Taiwan.cn)—In August 2026, Zhong Ronghe and his son Zhong Binghan, a father and son from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, crossed the Strait to visit their ancestral home in Jiaoling County, Meizhou, Guangdong, and worship their ancestors. They fulfilled their family’s decades-long aspiration to trace their origins and pay homage to their forebears.

In April this year, Zhong Binghan, who had just returned from studies in the United Kingdom, made his first solo trip to Jiaoling, following his father’s request to trace their ancestral roots. With assistance from the local Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office and clan relatives, cross-checking of genealogical records confirmed Guangfu Town as their ancestral hometown. Zhong Binghan then offered incense and paid homage at Yixuan Ancestral Hall and Yangting Ancestral Hall. He shared the good news via video call with his father in Taiwan, fulfilling Zhong Ronghe’s long-cherished wish to trace his roots.

Several months later, on August 8, Zhong Ronghe accompanied his son on another trip back to their ancestral hometown. On August 9, the father and son paid homage to ancestors successively at the General Ancestral Hall of Ancestor Xiu of the Zhong Clan in Wuping, the Tingyang Ancestral Hall in Haoling Village, and the Yixuan Ancestral Hall in Shifeng Village of Guangfu Town, Jiaoling County.
Throughout their root-searching visit, the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Jiaoling County and local Zhong clan relatives provided all-round support. The thoughtful hospitality helped the father and son feel the warmth and goodwill of their ancestral home.
The Zhong family said the journey allowed them to witness the genuine warmth of the Chinese mainland. They expressed hopes that Zhong clan relatives from both sides of the Strait would maintain frequent exchanges in the future. Bound by blood and shared hometown affection, this ancestral kinship across the Strait can be passed down from generation to generation.
