For 14 Consecutive Years, Taiwan-Based Compatriot Grants Heartwarming Scholarship to Hometown Students

　　At the ceremony, Tao Deyou, accompanied by his family, personally presented scholarships to seven eligible students this year, each receiving 4,000 yuan. While handing over the red envelopes, he urged the young recipients: "Study hard in college and grow into individuals who contribute to society."

　　Tao Jun, Tao Deyou's niece, drove over 100 kilometers from Huangshi to attend the event and gave each scholarship recipient a custom-made red insulated mug. Staff members from the Huangshi Port-Area Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang also offered each student a 500-yuan travel subsidy.

　　Born in Taiwan, Tao Deyou pursued business careers in Hong Kong, South Africa, and elsewhere before retiring. During a trip back to his ancestral home in 2013, he learned that his grandfather had served as a school director of Zhengyuan Middle School, the predecessor of No. 2 High School of Xinzhou. In honor of his great-uncle, Tao Yuebo, he established the scholarship to support financially disadvantaged students admitted to universities.

　　Despite the distance across the Taiwan Strait, this annual August promise has never faltered for 14 years. To date, more than 100 underprivileged students from No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 High Schools of Xinzhou have benefited from the fund.
