Taiwan's Kuma Academy criticized for promoting separatism and wartime atmosphere

The Chinese mainland on Wednesday criticized the Kuma Academy in Taiwan for stoking a wartime atmosphere and engaging in separatist activities under the guise of making a profit, calling the organization a "Taiwan independence profiteer".

Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said the academy's misconduct was deplorable and warned that separatist activities in pursuit of "Taiwan independence" would be met with punishment.

The Kuma Academy recently called on cities and counties across Taiwan to incorporate "wartime disaster preparedness" into local disaster-prevention planning and advocated building a more comprehensive whole-of-society "defense" system on the island.

"The remarks are completely misguided and amount to promoting the idea of turning Taiwan into a battlefield, which will inevitably face opposition from the people of Taiwan," Zhu said.

She stated that the Kuma Academy had gone to great lengths to stoke a wartime atmosphere and cultivate a "seed of violence" in Taiwan society while openly engaging in separatist activities, making it a de facto base for "Taiwan independence".

Zhu added that the organization uses the guise of lectures, training programs, and outdoor exercises to profit from its activities and colludes with external forces to defraud people of their money, making it a "Taiwan independence profiteer".
