Oct 16(Taiwan.cn)—From September 24 to 29, Ms. Zhang Huilan, a compatriot from Taiwan, led a six-person group back to Xiangcheng County, Xuchang City, to seek relatives and pay homage to ancestors, fulfilling her long-cherished dream of a cross-Strait family reunion.
Ms. Zhang Huilan is the daughter of Zhang Sheng'en, a veteran who moved to Taiwan. After her father passed away, she long harbored the wish to return to her hometown to look for her relatives. Through the joint efforts of all parties, Ms. Zhang's homecoming trip to trace her roots finally materialized. Welcomed by relatives and friends, Ms. Zhang and her entourage conducted root-tracing and ancestor worship activities at Sanligou Community, Cigou Subdistrict, Xiangcheng County, and at the ancestral tomb. They also visited scenic spots such as Ziyun Mountain and Shoushan Park. While enjoying the beautiful scenery, the closely related family members were immersed in the deep bonds of kinship. They talked about past stories and shared their visions for the future. Through this root-tracing trip, Ms. Zhang gained a deeper understanding of her family history, witnessed the new progress in her hometown's economic and social development, and felt a spiritual bond and sense of belonging to her ancestral home.
An official from the Xuchang Taiwan Affairs Office stated that the office will use this root-seeking and ancestor worship activity as an opportunity to continue building bridges for exchanges between compatriots across the Taiwan Strait and serving as an emotional bond. It will help sustain the everlasting kinship between the two sides and contribute to the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and the complete reunification of the motherland.(Jointly reported by Taiwan.cn and the Taiwan Affairs Office of Xuchang)
