Mainland proposes more flights to bring Taiwan compatriots stranded in Hubei back

BEIJING, March 26 -- The Chinese mainland has again proposed temporary flights through the cross-Strait civil aviation contact channel to bring more Taiwan compatriots stranded in the novel coronavirus-hit Hubei Province back home, according to the Hubei provincial Taiwan affairs office Thursday.

Over 800 Taiwan compatriots have applied to take the flight which is expected to bring all Taiwan compatriots stranded in Hubei back home this week once approved, according to an official in charge of the office.

Taiwan compatriots stranded in Hubei are allowed to leave the province with the negative nucleid acid test result and a health certificate of medical examination, according to a notification recently released by the local authorities of epidemic prevention and control.

A total of 361 Taiwan compatriots had been sent back to Taiwan earlier via similar temporary flights and had walked home on Wednesday after a 14-day quarantine, the official said.
