Fresh agricultural products from Shanxi entered Taiwan?s market for the first time, as 300 kilograms of cherries were sold to Taiwan on June 18.

After Shandong province, Shanxi became the second mainland province to sell fruits to Taiwan.

Beginning in 2014, Shanxi?s Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau has supported the province?s cherry exports to Taiwan, and has prepared technical materials on Shanxi cherries for risk analysis.

This April, three experts from Taiwan took field visits to Yuncheng?s cherry production areas. Finally, Shanxi cherries were approved for sale to Taiwan on June 11.

Taiwan has competitive agriculture, including fertile tropical fruits, rice and flowers, while Shanxi is abundant in temperate-zone fruits and coarse grains. The two areas are complementary in agriculture, according to an official from the Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

Based on the agricultural inspection platforms from both sides, more quality agricultural products may be expected to enter Taiwan market.
