In Taiwan, doctors are warning of a critical period for those injured in a blaze in a water park in New Taipei city. Two people have died in hospital, and more than 255 people are still receiving treatment. Among them, 211 are in critical condition.
Seventy of them have shown either fever or inflammatory symptoms. Doctors say the next few days will be critical for these patients. Most of them urgently need skin-grafts, and authorities have spent 100 million New Taiwan dollars, which is about 3 million US dollars, on shipping in cadaver skin for the operations. A number of renowned surgeons in the mainland have volunteered to help at the hospitals.
The explosion and fire at a crowded event in the water park injured nearly 500 people. The cause was found to be flammable coloured powder, which ignited and the flames spread fast through the crowd.
