HO CHI MINH CITY, May 23-- Facing long working hours and low incomes, more and more kindergarten teachers in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City have switched to other jobs.

The number of kindergarten teachers in the city quitting teaching increased from 706 in the 2013-2014 school year to 823 in 2014-2015 and 885 in 2015-2016, Vietnam News Agency reported on Tuesday quoting statistics from the municipal authorities.

According to the authorities, kindergarten teachers work for 10-12 hours each day. The intensity of their work is also high, but their income is too low.

While the city needs 1,965 teachers for kindergarten education each year, only 1,466 are employed.

Ho Chi Minh City plans to raise salary and allowances for kindergarten teachers. The total fund for the salary hike is estimated at more than 251 billion Vietnamese dong (11 million U.S. dollars) each year.
