TOKYO, June 20 -- Tokyo stocks advanced Tuesday morning as investor sentiment was bolstered by the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing at a record overnight, while the yen's retreat against the U.S dollar also contributed to risk appetite.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 219.92 points, or 1.10 percent, from Monday to 20,287.67, after hitting its highest intraday level at 20,318.11 since Aug. 19, 2015.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 15.80 points, or 0.98 percent, to 1,621.87.
