TAIPEI, Dec. 7 -- Taiwan's November exports grew at the fastest rate in 46 months as the year-end shopping season boosts demand for Taiwan-made goods.

Exports increased 12.1 percent year on year to 25.34 billion U.S. dollars, while imports edged up 3 percent to 21.07 billion U.S. dollars, the island's finance department said on Wednesday.

Trade surplus more than doubled to 4.27 billion U.S. dollars.

Sheu Yu-jer, head of the island's finance department, said exports are recovering along with the improving global economic outlook. However, that did not reverse the fact that exports contracted 3.1 percent in the first eleven months.

Taiwan's exports substantially improved in the past two months on the back of recent high demand for telecommunication and electronic products.

Analysts forecast that orders for electronics and telecommunication products will continue to grow at a steady pace in the rest of the year as Europe and the United States enter a major shopping season and demand for electronic products will stay robust.
