HONG KONG -- Hong Kong Chief Executive CY Leung sent a condolence message to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom William Hague, on the death of former British Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher Tuesday.
"On behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the people of Hong Kong, I extend my deepest condolences to the people of Britain on the death of Baroness Thatcher. In particular, we extend our sympathies to her family.
Baroness Thatcher will be remembered as the British Prime Minister whose signature appears on the Sino-British Joint Declaration signed in Beijing in December 1984. This agreement marked the beginning of Hong Kong's transition and return to China in 1997, when the principle of One Country, Two Systems' in Hong Kong was successfully implemented," the message said.
