KUNMING -- The death toll from a coal mine accident in southwest China's Yunnan Province has climbed to five, with the bodies of all victims recovered as of Tuesday morning, according to local authorities.
The last miner's body was lifted out of the mine shaft at 6:20 a.m., according to a statement issued by the publicity bureau of Qujing City. The roof of the shaft at Dahai coal mine in Qujing's Zhanyi county collapsed at noon on Monday.
Twenty-six miners escaped the tragedy, while five victims were trapped underground, said the statement.
Four survivors with minor injuries are being treated in a local hospital, it said.
In another coal mine accident on Monday afternoon, two miners were killed and seven others injured by a gas explosion at Yujin coal mine in Tongchuan City in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, according to the city government.
