The devastating earthquake on April 25 in Nepal caused one town and one county in Tibet to move 60 centimeters or so to the right, according to the latest observations released by the Wuhan-based China Earthquake Administration.
After the magnitude-8.1 earthquake struck the country, four observation groups were sent to 2,000 locations, within 300 kilometers from the epicenter, to conduct emergency monitoring, an official from the earthquake research institute told Chutian Metropolis Daily on Monday.
The observation team found that the quake had shifted the ground beneath Gyirong Town and Nyalam County in Xigaze City, Southwestern China's Tibet Autonomous Region about 60 centimeters southward. It also caused Nyalam County to sink some 10 centimeters.
It is understood that the linear distance between the epicenter of the Nepal quake and the border of China is about 50 kilometers. Strong tremors could be felt in Gyirong Town and Nyalam County. The earthquake has moved Kathmandu 3 meters southward and sunk Mount Qomolangma by 2.5 centimeters, earlier reports said.
