XIAMEN -- Red Cross staff and volunteers from both sides of the Taiwan Strait carried out joint humanitarian aid exercises in Jinmen and Penghu on Monday.
The exercises will last from June 17 to 20, according to the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC), which co-sponsors the exercises with Red Cross agencies in Taiwan.
The exercises are intended to improve cooperation in natural disaster relief, search and rescue operations and lifesaving efforts, sources with the RCSC said.
Cross-strait Red Cross cooperation in humanitarian aid started with the Jinmen Agreement signed by the Red Cross societies of both sides of the Taiwan Strait in 1990.
