BEIJING -- A symposium on cross-Strait relations will be held in Hong Kong from June 29 to 30, a spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council announced Wednesday.
Initiated by the Taiwan Reform Foundation (TRF) and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the symposium will be the first of its kind jointly held by the Taiwan-based TRF and a mainland research institute, spokeswoman Fan Liqing told a regular press conference.
Sun Yafu, head of the mainland-based Research Center for Relations across the Taiwan Strait, and another 20-plus mainland researchers on cross-Strait relations are expected to attend the seminar, the spokeswoman said.
She said the mainland supports such cross-Strait academic exchanges and civil political dialogues carried out by scholars from both sides.
The mainland also encourages them to boost mutual understanding and contribute to the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, Fan added.
The "Beijing Talk" seminar on mainland-Taiwan relations, which was held last week in Beijing, was attended by more than 100 scholars from both sides of the Strait.
