BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland and Taiwan are discussing offices on both sides to help family members visit those who have been punished or died in accidents, a mainland spokeswoman said on Wednesday.
Fan Liqing, spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, told a regular press conference that the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits has been supportive of such visits at the request of its counterpart, the Taiwan Straits Exchange Foundation, especially since an agreement on judicial cooperation and crackdown on crimes in 2009.
Fan expects such offices on both sides to greatly enhance cross-Strait relations.
In response to a question on permanent media stations on both sides, Fan said that efforts are being made to improve the press situation.
