BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland has launched an emergency mechanism to provide help for Taiwanese in Nepal, a mainland official said on Wednesday.
"After the Nepal earthquake, the mainland is willing to help Taiwanese compatriots in Nepal, as both sides are of one family," said Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson with the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, at a press conference.
A 8.1-magnitude quake shook Nepal at 2:11 p.m. (Beijing Time) on Saturday, followed by strong aftershocks.
