BEIJING -- Chinese mainland Wednesday denied that it will help Taiwan authorities to dispose nuclear waste.
The issue is not on the agenda of the upcoming meeting between cross-Strait affairs chiefs from the two sides, said Fan Liqing, spokesperson with the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, in a press release.
Zhang Zhijun, director of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, will meet Andrew Hsia, Taiwan's mainland affairs chief, at Kinmen County on May 23 to 24.
Previous reports from Taiwan media said Zhang and Hsia will discuss shipping low-level radioactive waste from Taiwan to the mainland for disposal.
"The media reports were not true," Fan said.
The cross-Strait agreement on nuclear power safety, signed in 2011, also did not include such provisions, she said.
