Fan Liqing, spokeswoman of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office (SCTAO), answers questions at a regular press conference on May.27,2015.
BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland on Wednesday reiterated its policy to promote cross-Strait peace and denounce "Taiwan independence" after the release of its latest military strategy report Tuesday.
The promotion of peaceful development of cross-Strait relations will not change, said Fan Liqing, spokesperson with the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, when commenting on possible changes the latest military strategy report may have on cross-Strait policy.
Our resolve to stop the secessionists of "Taiwan independence" from splitting the country will not be weakened, Fan said at a regular press conference.
"Our stance on Taiwan is consistent and clear," she said.
When summarizing the overall security situation, the military strategy report, published by the State Council Information Office Tuesday, acknowledged that the root cause of instability across the Taiwan Strait remained, though noting that relations have sustained the sound momentum of peaceful development in recent years.
It warned that "Taiwan independence" separatist forces and their activities were still the biggest threat to the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations.
