"Furious 7" tops again North American box office

LOS ANGELES -- Universal's "Furious 7" raced ahead of the competition this weekend with 60 million U.S. dollars in its second weekend at the North American box office. The film was a 59 percent drop from debut weekend. "Furious 7" is running an extremely impressive 48 percent ahead of the 171 million dollars 10-day gross of 2013's "Fast &Furious 6."

The extension of the "Fast And Furious" franchise now has amassed 252.5 million dollars in tickets in United States and Canada, according to box-office tracking firm Rentrak. It has grossed a massive 800.5 million dollars worldwide since released, including a 68.6 million dollars opening day ticket in China.

The 3D computer animated film "Home" from Fox and DreamWorks Animation was occupying second place, with 19 million dollars in sales on its third weekend of exhibition, declining 30 percent from last weekend.

"The Longest Ride" debuted in third place, with 13.5 million in sales. This Nicholas Sparks romancer, starring Scott Eastwood and Britt Robertson, opened at 3,132 locations. The first-night moviegoers ranked "The Longest Ride" in an "A" list, however, the critics only gave it low 29 percent approval rate.

Rounding out the 10 most-popular films in the U.S. and Canada this weekend were "Get Hard" (8.6 million dollars), "Cinderella" ( 7.2 million), "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" (6.9 million), " Woman In Gold" (5.9 million), "It Follows" (2 million), "Danny Collins" (1.6 million) and "While We're Young" 1.4 million
