Magnitude 5.4 quake jolts Hualien, Taiwan

TAIPEI, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's seismological agency said a moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 degrees on the Richter scale hit Hualien, Taiwan, at 5:04 pm Saturday.

The epicenter was initially determined to be at 23.45 degrees north latitude and 121.76 degrees east longitude, with depth of 42 kilometers.
