Thousands of tourists chose to leave the mainland for the holiday, and many visited Taiwan. Tourist numbers were double what they were last year.
Taiwan has been a hot destination for mainland travelers, since mid-2008, when it first opened to them for group tours.
During this year's 7-day National Day holiday, the island became even more popular, with an increasing number of mainland visitors flocking to the island. The total figure nearly doubled from a year ago.
Chen Mei-Hsiu, Official of Taiwan Strait Tourism Association said "The number of mainland tourists totaled more than 20 thousand during the long holiday, that is, nearly 3000 visitors each day on average. The daily visitor number is 92 percent more from a year earlier."
According to Taiwan's tourism authorities, Sun Moon Lake, 101 tower and National Palace Museum were the most attractive destinations for mainland tourists.
One Beijing tourist said "I learnt about Ali mountain and Sun Moon Lake only in school text books. This time I am able to visit Taiwan, and enjoy its beautiful scenery. It is truly a treasure island, as it has been called."
The tourists from the Mainland injected some 200 million yuan in the local economy during the 7-day period.
With the increasing number of visitors from the Mainland, local authorities in Taiwan are considering individual tours for mainland travelers and simplified entry procedures.
As of August this year, more than 1.4 million mainland tourists have visited the island.
