Over the course of the last week Lin-sanity has taken over the NBA and as we just saw it touched down in Canada on Tuesday night, so it comes as no surprise that the phenomenon would spread to the place of his ancestry -- Taiwan.
A group of basketball fans in Taiwan got up early to cheer for Jeremy Lin, an American of Taiwanese descent. They watched on Wednesday morning as Lin's New York Knicks beat the Toronto Raptors.
The Harvard grad and ex-Warriors guard has inspired fans not just cheer for him, but to emulate him on the court.
Students playing at Taiwan University in downtown Taipei have found a new basketball hero.
The 23-year-old Lin has galvanized a struggling Knicks team and launched a craze dubbed
"Linsanity" by New York tabloids.
Ling Kangan, university student, said, "He is a very big star and he is using his brains to play. He is everywhere on the court, and he plays well with others."
Zhang Ganyu, university student, said, "I like Jeremy Lin more than Yao, because Yao Ming is already famous. For Lin, it's like nobody heard of him before. Kobe Bryant gave an interview saying he did not know who Lin was. So he is truly a rising star."
