BEIJING -- Taiwan?s meteorological authority says Typhoon Soulik has left two dead, 1 missing and 104 others injured after it hit the island early Saturday morning.
The authority says Soulik hit the region between Yilan County and Xinbei city at around 3 am. It is continuing moving northwestward, and its center has already moved away from the island. The typhoon has seriously affected transport on the island. About 200 flights have been delayed and 154 cancelled at Taoyuan Airport near Taipei, while highways were blocked by toppled trees and landslides.
Bad weather also cut off power supplies to about 1 million households with 85,000 households still not reconnected by early evening. All school classes are closed. The meteorological authority also issued a warning of heavy rainstorms in Taiwan's mountainous regions for Sunday.
