HONG KONG -- An import ban on poultry eggs from Taiwan's Hualien County has come into effect, the Center for Food Safety of Hong Kong announced Monday.
The World Organization for Animal Health notified the center that there have been outbreaks of low pathogenic H5N2 and H5N3 avian influenza detected on poultry farms there.
Poultry egg imports from Taiwan's Penghu County have been banned since Nov. 23.
Hong Kong imports a small amount of poultry eggs from Taiwan, but no live poultry or poultry meat. From January to May, about 1. 6 million poultry eggs have been imported into Hong Kong from Taiwan.
