BEIJING -- The first cross-Strait peace forum, a platform for non-official political dialogue between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan is being held in Shanghai.
Around 120 experts gathered in the two-day event to rally political wisdom and expand consensus. The agenda includes a number of sensitive cross-Strait issues including political relations, the one-China framework, and military security.
The director of the State Council?s Taiwan Affairs Office, Zhang Zhijun said some of the political disputes can stay in abeyance temporarily, but should not be avoided forever.
"While promoting cross-strait economic and cultural communication, we also need to endeavour in resolving conflicts. By making reasonable arrangements for cross-strait political relations, the political mutual trust will continue to be enhanced, major issues concerning both sides be resolved and a peaceful common development be realized. " Zhang said.
