DAVAO CITY, Philippines -- A moderate magnitude-5.0 earthquake shook parts of southern Philippines early on Monday, the website of U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from local authorities from the quake that struck at 9:28 a.m. local time (0128 GMT) and was traced 27 kilometers northwest of President Roxas township, in Mindanao's North Cotabato province at a depth of 28.9 kilometers, the USGS said.
The quake was also felt in other areas in North Cotabato, site of a series of quakes that measured magnitude-5.7 last month that wounded several people and destroyed dozens of homes and two bridges, as well as the landlocked province of Bukidnon.
The Philippines sits in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire where continental plates collide causing frequent quakes and volcanic activities.
