BANGKOK - More than 40 people were injured after two trains collided in central Thailand's Ayutthaya province late Thursday night, local media reported.

At about 10 pm local time, a Bangkok-Nong Khai train and a Bangkok-Phrae train collided near the train station of Pachi district in Ayutthaya, according to a Thairath report.

The injured were successively sent to the hospital, four of whom sustained severe wounds. Meanwhile, some passengers remained trapped in train carriages, awaiting rescue.

There were reportedly a total of 150 passengers on the two trains, including Thais and foreigners.

This is the third accident involving trains this week. Earlier on Thursday, a pickup truck reportedly rammed into a train in southern Trang province. The driver of the pickup was knocked unconscious and suffered two broken legs.

On Tuesday, another pickup driver was injured in Trang when his vehicle was hit by a train.
