Death toll from heat wave in India nears 800

NEW DELHI -- The heat wave sweeping through many parts of India killed 90 more people on Monday, taking the toll in the heat wave to near 800, said officials on Tuesday.

All the people died of sunstroke and heat-related incidents. Most of the deaths were from the southern states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where 551 and 215 had died, respectively, till Monday.

The two states recorded 45 degrees Celsius and 42 degrees Celsius on Monday and Tuesday in average, while the capital Delhi also recorded 45 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

Indian Meteorological Department said Tuesday the heat wave would continue for at least two days in many parts of the country.
