PYONGYANG -- Elections of local legislators will take place in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on July 19, the official KCNA news agency said Tuesday.
Quoting an announcement from the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, the state media said the elections for deputies to province (municipality), city (district) and county-level people's assemblies will be held in accordance with the country's socialist constitution and decisions of the local people's committees.
These will be the first elections of their kind since the country's top leader Kim Jong Un came to power in late 2011.
The elections for deputies to the local people's assemblies are held every four years in the DPRK. The DPRK's last local elections were held on July 24, 2011. Enditem
