UNITED NATIONS -- UN Secretary-general Ban Ki- moon on Monday condemned the deadly terrorist attack at the Turkish town of Suruc earlier in the day, which reportedly claimed at least28 lives and injured more than a hundred.

No cause or grievance ever justifies the targeting of civilians, and the secretary-general hopes the perpetrators of this act will be swiftly identified and brought to justice, said a statement from Ban's spokesperson.

"He sends his deepest condolences to the victims and their families, as well as to the government and people of Turkey, and wishes those injured a speedy recovery," the statement added.

An apparent suicide bombing ripped through a rally on Monday in the Amara Cultural Park of Suruc, a predominantly Kurdish town located on the Turkish border with Syria.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility. However, there were media reports linking the attack with the Turkish government' s fight against terrorism. Enditem
