GUIYANG -- A county in southwest China's Guizhou Province has lost access to power and water supplies after torrential rain battered the area from Tuesday night to Wednesday, according to local authorities.
Main roads that link the county to low-lying urban areas were left impassable after floods of up to two-meters deep were triggered by the storm, said Leishan County publicity department.
An eight-meter-wide bridge in the downtown area was submerged by flood waters.
No casualties have been reported.
Rescue teams comprising police and fire fighters began evacuating residents in the early hours of Wednesday.
Torrential rain lashed the provinces of Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong and Guizhou, and Guangxi region in south China last week, leaving 35 dead and 13 missing, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
