BEIJING -- A total of 3,102 Taiwanese law students have sat the mainland's judicial examination since 2008, of which 201 have passed and can work as legal practitioners on the mainland.

Yang Yi, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks at a press briefing on Wednesday.

Taiwan residents have been allowed to sit the National Judicial Exam since 2008. Passing the exam is a prerequisite to enter the legal profession on the mainland.

The mainland approved seven Taiwanese law firms to set up representative offices on the mainland in 2011. Applications from another two Taiwanese law firms for such offices are being examined, according to Yang.
