PUEBLA, Mexico -- Chinese Taipei got its first medal in 2013 World Taekwondo Championships here as Chuang Chia-chia came second in women's 67 kg category on Wednesday.
France's Haire Niare won the title.
Before advancing to the final, Chuang eliminated top seed and London Olympic Games silver medalist Nur Tatar in the second round and beat the 5th seed, Azerbaijan's Farida Azizova in the semifinal.
During the final, the audience witnessed a fight where both fighters did not carry out successful attacks against each other, as the first period ended in a tie without points. The French went 4-0 in the second period and won the match 5-4.
Chuang told Xinhua that she felt regretful for missing the title, as it is the third time for her to compete in the world championships.
"I could play even better in the last minutes," she said, adding that "what finally decided the victory is your state of play during the bout."
Chuang said she will not celebrate the silver and will practice hard after the championships, as her next objective is to win a gold medal in the East Asian Games.
Iranian athlete Behnam Asbaghikhanghah claimed the title of men's 68 kg category by defeating South Korean Kim Hun 5-4.
