TAIPEI, June 20 -- Taiwan's export orders saw a year-on-year drop of 5.8 percent in May, the 14th consecutive month of contraction, data released by its economic department showed on Monday.
Export orders in May were 33.7 billion U.S. dollars, including 8.4 billion dollars from the Chinese mainland and 9.4 billion dollars from the United States.
The department attributed the continued weakness to the sluggish global economy and declining sales in products like smartphones, notebooks and TV sets.
From January to May, the export orders Taiwan received were 165 billion dollars, down 8.4 percent from the same period last year.
