Taiwan's export orders down 2.4 pct in June

TAIPEI, July 20 -- Taiwan's export orders saw a year-on-year drop of 2.4 percent in June, the 15th consecutive month of contraction, data released by its economic department showed on Wednesday.

Export orders in the month stood at 35.7 billion U.S. dollars, according to the department. Its data showed the scale of decline was better than in May, when a year-on-year drop of 5.8 percent was recorded.

The department said export orders from the United Statesand European countries posted growth in June while orders from the Chinese mainland and Japanslipped.

From January to May, Taiwan received about 165.4 billion dollars' worth of export orders, down 8.4 percent from the same period last year.
